National Park Tiveden

National Park Tiveden

Enjoy the wilderness feeling in a hilly and wild forest landscape with dramatic rift valleys, beautiful lakes, giant boulders at Stenkälla, views from the Trollkyrka mountain and the white beach at Vitsand.

Tiveden National Park is one of southern Sweden's wildest forests and one of the most beautiful. It is a hilly, mountainous and stony area. Largely pathless and inaccessible but also infinitely inviting. The park is located in the most inaccessible part of Tiveden forests, in the area called Trolltiven.

In this since 1983 protected area you will find several beautiful natural wild lakes.
You will also find a impressive rock with the name Junker Jägeres stone, up to 10 meters high, which has been transported by the inland ice during the Ice Age period. There are several caves; the most famous are Stenkälla and Vitsands grotterna.

Yet it is not as untouched as it first seems. The softest moss, clear lakes and breathtaking views surround the trails that have been used since ancient times. It has been a shifting cultivation, charcoal burning and logging, but never have people been living here.

Well-marked trails offer little demanding hikes, which you can start from the main entrance and Vitsand or Ösjönäs. Bergslagsleden is crossing the park, as well as equestrian trails from Ridleder Tiveden and the bike trail Lilla Kungsleden. During the summer you can take a dip after the hike in Trehörningen at Vitsands elongated sandy beach.
