Try to imagine how Tiveden-Norra Vättern looks through a child´s eyes. While adults may think that the woods and grottoes are fascinating, that the sandy beaches are long, the cafés are charming and that the large boats are great - what do children think?
An island for children - and for you
On Borgmästareholmen, just a stone´s throw from the centre of Askersund, you will find Barnens egen Ö (Children´s Island). The island has long been a lively meeting place, even though you previously needed a boat to take you there. Nowadays, there is a long bridge which makes it easy to get there whenever you want. Children can usually spend plenty of time playing and climbing on the unusual sculptures and bathing from the beach. With a little luck, there should even be time for a delicious treat on the way over!

Swimming and summer fun
The entire Tiveden-Norra Vättern area is dotted with excellent spots to go swimming outdoors. Possibly the best leisure area for children is in Harge with its fantastic
sandy beach, which is often called the “Riviera of Närke".

Bookmarks
In Askersund, a private collector of antique bookmarks has a little museum with a shop. You may even recognise some of the bookmarks from your own collection... just imagine, you may own a genuine rarity!

Icecream and boats
Askersund is the kind of town perfect to visit for a day, or more. Take a stroll in the harbour, have an icecream while you admire the boats. Why not take the little train to the open-air homemuseum in the citypark?

Vitsand
Vitsand is a chalk-white sandy beach located incongruously in the heart of the Tived woods. On the way there, you can also take some time out to explore the remarkable Tärnekulle grottoes. At the south end of Skagern, there is a long sandy beach with a campsite where facilities include a beach volleyball court, a mini-golf course and a playground.

Laxå
The Municipality of Laxå is home to a wealth of lakes that are ideal for swimming in. Unden with the long Tivedsbadet beach and the Lax lakes with their sandbanks are ideal for family swimming outings. Midsommarbadet is unique, as it is actually in the centre of Laxå!
